Ways To Find A Mentor?

I've read and have been told that the best wayto get started in RE is to find a mentor. The problem is I do not know any REI in my area. I have been to foreclosure auctions several time and can identify who the experienced investors are but they seem like they are too busy to talk or listen to an inexperienced REI. I have searched and searched and searched for a mentor in my area but have not been successful. Unfortunatley the area that I live in has no REI Club or REI Associations. At least I have not been able to find them. I have looked in websites such as this one and the yellowpages but no luck. I live in the South Texas and the closest REI Club have there meetings in Austin (about 400 miles away). Can anyone give me some advise of how I can find a mentor who would be willing to assist me in getting started or have me as a birddog?

I think the best mentor is the library and your telephone. Read every real estate investment book you can, and call people who are selling their house, property mgmt companies, realtors, etc. Control your own destiny, you will meet good people that will help you along the way but you don't need a mentor to suceed
