Need Help Getting Started

EStreet profile photo

I'm interested in investing in real estate in the Central Jersey area. I'm interested in a single family residence in my neighborhood that was damaged in the flood from Hurricane Floyd in '99 and has been unoccupied ever since. Can anyone tell me how I can should go about finding out who currently owns the property?

Call or visit your local tax collector and ask who is the owner of record, or who is paying the property taxes. It's a place to start.

you cuold also check with the county recorders office or city how ever it works in your state. Start with the street adress and use that to locate the APN or assesors partial number. The APN has an owner listed that should have a contact address. If that address is not current and a postal correction doesn't work then an on line white pages search is another good start.
