Locating Owners

rwilson profile photo

I have several houses that are vancant and I have the owners name and the address is the same as the vacant house. How do I go about locating and contacting the owners when I have a name but nothing else? I would hate to just pass this up because I can't locate the owners.

Can anyone give some help on how I can locate them and/or what else I can do.

thanks
rwilson

This hapened to me with the house next door to mine, which had been abandoned for 5 years. I called the county tax bureau and asked what address they were sending the tax bill to and if it was current. They told me they were sending it to the site address and that the bill was paid every year. I dropped off a letter in the mailbox and heard back shortly from the owner. He didn't want to sell, but comes by periodically to get the mail. I've lived here for a year and haven't seen him yet.

Go to the town hall assessors office. Bring the address of the property, and ask for the book and page. With that, head to the county office, and look up the book and page. Is shows a recorded mortgage, and usually a owner, and a contact address

    Agreed,

Check the recorders office for any mortgages, many are now online which may save you some legwork.

    Hi rwilson,

If they owned and lived in the home initially, the mortgage and the address are going to be at the address of the vacant house. In that case, it would be of no help to you. Also, as the above post said, if the tax bill is still sent to the vacant property and the taxes are current, the accessors office wont be able to help you on this either.

Look in your yellow pages for private investigators and have them run a skip trace for you. This will cost between $20-$100 depending on their access to databases.

A good PI will be able to locate where the owners lives now, their phone number, and possible local relatives.

I believe there is a company on this site that will do skip traces. Click on the shop tab or look at the scrolling banner at the top.

    Best of Success!
