Identifying A Good Deal Via The Numbers

Greetings All:
Well, I finished my Real Investing Boot Camp and I'm rarin' to go, except for one thing. I don't think I understand how to identify (via numbers) a good deal. I lost something in the translation. The area I want to focus on is Pre-foreclosures. When I'm at the Courthouse pulling up these cases for information, what should I be focusing on. I want to learn to identify situations where the numbers make sense in terms of a profitable payday. My instructor took us to Montgomery County Courthouse yesterday and showed us how to look up the lis pendens cases and gave a little insight regarding how to do a basic title search. I wouldappreciate a few of you giving me some hypothetical situations with numbers so that I can get this and join the ranks of you successful investors.
