Getting Started

I have been reading this site for a few months now and decided to get started in REI, I think bird dogging will be the best way for me start. While reading through the beginners forum a few people have recommended the e-book Big Bucks Bird-Dogging by John Locke, my question is does anyone have this e-book? And is this good material for a beginner?

    Sage,
I am a big proponet of on the job training. Meening that you should learn as you go. Becouse your profits as bird dog are directly related to how much time you spend searching for properties and meeting with investors my suggestion is to stop reading and get started immidiately.

The first step is to search on the forums for investors in your area, looking for birddogs. Then look in your local paper for investors. Contact them and ask about bird dogging for them.

Any investor will be happy to help you by educating you on how to find properties. This is becouse there is such a HUGE profit from the work that you do for them.

Hello, New to this site..Please explain what is Birddogging?

  • PBFerrigan15th November, 2004

Birddogging is a great way to get started in REI(Real Estate Investing).

Through an arrangement between you and a RE investor you find and collect information about properties that fit the parameters that an investor gives you.

If the investor goes through and purchases a property that you find them, you get a finders fee of $500.

Because these investors know how much they stand to make from a lead you bring in, they are more then happy to train you on how to find proerties.

Contact local investors about offering your services.

    PBFerrigan,
Thanks for replying and I agree with you, so I will begin looking for investors right away, but don’t you think it would be wise to study and do a little research to learn how things work instead of relying on someone to teach you everything? The reason I’m asking is that I am new to this and wanted to get my hands on some good reading material to help me get started.

    Hi Sage,

Yes, you should certainly put in the work of reading and studying and also talking to people who are in the business.

Hit the library and read everything they have on real estate investing as it is free, good libraries will also have good books on audio you can listen to while driving around.

For broad view stuff, the Rich Dad books are good, for motivation the Whitney books are good.
