Foreclosure Newbie Question
I was searching through the NOD database online, from which they allow one to order the information. There are tons of listings, but they don't give any information about the NOD.
My question is how do I know which ones to check out? They are $9 a pop and there are way too many to purchase without drying up my bank account. I don't want NODs on buisness, condos, etc... Is there a way to weed these out? Or, am I going at this all wrong?

What state are you in? That is the first thing to consider. Some states don't have NOD's. Before you spend 9 bucks, I would research the state statutes for the state you are in and determine if the NOD is even part of the state guidelines for handleing foreclosures. Good luck.
I'm in CA, I already checked the policies concerning the NODs. The courthouse web page for Santa Clara county is very helpful with that. I can even order the NODs online, and they are up to date as well.
To save your money, if that is an issue, you can go to the courthouse and pull the NOD's in person. Do they charge if you go in person? If not, the ride might be worth it.

The rule No. 1: If and when possible, get the information directly form the horse's mouth, not information resellers.
What it means is you have to bring your lunch to county recorders office where you'll intelligently spent the best time digging throughout FREE public record... people working there would be glad to help you with any question you might have. Did I say: Would not cost you anything?
If you want to build the relation with the clerks who can help you a lot, bring some donuts, you'll be surprise how much they love them too. Same goes for the court houses where you can dig some probates, divorces, buncruptcy, Etc. The game of monopoly has never been better. Just go ahead and throw those dices.
