Closing And Prorating Costs - How Do I Do It?
Hi all,
I will be closing on a 2 fam soon, and need some advice
on how prorated items like utilities, sewage, etc. are handled.
Do I ask for a current bill and prorate it by day?
So if there are 24 days left in Jan, do I simply ask for last months
water bill and ask for a check of 7/31 (31 days in Jan) of it?

Contact utilities companies and tell them that you are buying the property and give them the closing date and tell them you want the billing to start on that day. I would make sure the closing doesnt go past that date, but you can always call them and re-adjust. They should be able to help. They sure do charge for partial months when you move in during the month...right? Good luck
