Advantages Vs. Disadvantages ?

Here imnmy area of sunny FL new home prices have soared rapidly ( developers cashing in on what investors were doing - contract new home avg. $175k and turn for $250k i.e. yield $75k profit or so after construction complete ). So now new construction prices are at retail -can you blame the developers (?). My Q is, is it still worth it to contract a new home, wait the 6-8 mos. for completion or is it too risky with the real estate market starting to slow or presidential election coming up ( it's effects ?). I'm as new as one can get to being interested in Real estate. I'm trying to get info BEFORE I go out and drop some cash on a contract. THANKS !
