Description
This town is located in Union City. It was built in the 1890's but we are not sure of the exact year and is part of the area's history. The original owner was the local District Attorney. It was he that prosecuted the Nightriders of Reelfoot Lake. There were death threats against him and the military came to protect him and his family during the trial. He was actually shot at on the front porch but he was not injured. This is a two story home with the attic the third floor. The front columns are approximately 20 feet tall. There is a big picture window on the east side of the house and a bay window on the west side. There are azaleas all around the front of the house. A new roof was put on 10 years ago. All of the old wooden gutters have been covered up. There is a brick wall on three sides of the house and the fourth side has a chain link fence. It is located on the main residential street of town and has many other older homes close by. As you enter the front door of the house, there is a very large foyer. The floors are wood which have been refinished. On the left there is the original music room and has a set of original pocket doors. As you look ahead, there is an original set of indoor columns. On the left after you pass the columns, there is the stairway. It goes up a few steps, then turns and goes up a few more steps to a long landing. You cross the entire length of the room and continue up to the second floor. All of this is original. The lower floor has 12 foot celings and the second floor has 10 foot celings. Going back to the music room, you will see one of the original fireplaces. The tile is also original. The floor is wood which we have refinished. There are two lovely large windows in this room. This room has been wallpapered. As you go right from the foyer, there is another set of indoor columns. This goes into the living room. It has another fireplace but it in not original. It has gas logs and there is brick instead of tile. There are two sets of bookcases on each side of the fireplace with windows above. It has another large window facing the front of the house. It has been carpeted and wallpapered. It has another set of pocket doors entering the dining room. The dining room has the large picture window looking outside toward the east. It has been carpeted and wallpapered. There is another fireplace with original tile. It has a brass chandelier with matching wall lights on each side of the pocket doors. There is another door leading into the kitchen. The kitchen has been remodeled but not by us. The floors are linoleum and the walls papered. It has many cabinets and two windows looking into the backyard. It has two doors leading into the garage and the laundry area. The hallway is where is laundry area is. It leads to the downstairs full bath and two bedrooms. The bedrooms have the original pine floors, but one is carpeted. One bedroom has the bay window and is very large. Both bedrooms have closet space and another closet in the hallway. The long landing as you are going to the second floor has the original floor. There is an landing as you reach the second floor and it has the original flooring. The stairs area is open to the first floor. There is a door going to the outside second floor veranda. There are three bedrooms at this area of the house. Two of the bedrooms are on the west side of the house and the other is on the east side of the house. This one also has another fireplace. All have closets. The floors are original material and have been refinished. There is a hallway that leads to two baths. One is larger with two windows and a bathtub. The other is closed in with a shower. This hallway also has the ladder that you pull down that goes to the attic. It is a very large attic which has been sealed but not finished. The last room at the end of the hall is located at the back of the house. It has a beautiful large window looking out to the backyard. There is a set of drawers built into the walls. There is a door leading to a storage area. The floors are carpeted and the walls are papered. Union City is a growing town and is located just minutes from the future I-69 interstate. It is 25 miles from the historic Reelfoot Lake and 65 miles from Kentucky Lake. It is also home to the future Discovery Park and to one of Goodyear's larger plants. This is a wonderful older home but we are getting older and are downsizing to the country. It would make a wonder bed and breakfast. Email me for questions and additional photos. |
